A Steady Situation, Part 9

She rolled her eyes heavily. Luckily, she was the only one on the cart. It had been quite a surprise how poorly the management ran. She checked her designs again. She knew she didn’t have the seniority, but she was quite certain they weren’t that flawed. Sighing seemed to place a heavier weight on her chest than was already there. Her headache intensified, and she pinched the top of her nose.

Being the only architect there, they accepted them. But she wasn’t the only one available. So, why didn’t they just fire her, and commission another? Maybe there were some sort of fiscal issues that meant they couldn’t just keep going through architects like scores of bricks. Maybe they were just taking advantage of her, and keeping her self esteem down. She was employed on a commission basis, and decided to pay her less than what would ‘usually’ be offered.

Perhaps it was just her pride that kept her thinking these things. She’d always felt that her feelings were a weakness for her, and deciding to work harder usually helped her pull through. She gazed up at the dull moon and fading sun. One day, she thought. But not now.
